THE SURROUNDINGS

The castle of Lacoste is located in the Golden Triangle, in close proximity to the feudal castles of Castelnaud and Beynac, the medieval fortified town of Domme and the town of Sarlat with its Renaissance townhouses.
Situated on a rocky promontory, it overlooks the valley of the Dordogne and its tributary river, the Céou.
To the north is the lovely medieval village of Castelnaud with its fortified castle, transformed by its owner into a museum of medieval warfare.
Lacoste is opposite the village of Beynac, also medieval and overlooked by its own imposing castle.
A little further, the Carthusian monastery of Marqueyssac with its magnificient box-tree garden. A very few kilometres west, the castle of Milandes, which once belonged to the well-known American singer, Josephine Baker.
Further east, you can visit the villages of Domme and Laroque Gageac, listed as among the most beautiful villages of France.
To the north, Sarlat, whose reputation needs no advertising, with its 15th century houses, its cathedral and its marketplace

BLACK PERIGORD

One of the sub-regions of this vast region which gets its name from the great mass of evergreen oak trees, giving it a dark-green appearance in winter
It owes its reputation to the proximity of Sarlat, the entry-point for spreading its gastronomic fame ( duck, foie gras etc. ), knowledge of its traditions, its beautiful countryside and its habitat
